More About Dan Sankey

Dan is an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist musician, based in San Diego, who has been a fixture on the bluegrass scene for more than 25 years. Dan is an accomplished banjo, mandolin, fiddle and guitar player, and he has performed extensively throughout the United States and internationally - at Bluegrass and music festivals, corporate events, concert venues, casinos, clubs, private events, and on television. Dan has performed and recorded with some of the finest bluegrass musicians in the United States. While playing Bluegrass has been a passion for Dan, he has also played and recorded with singer/songwriters, Americana groups, country bands and even rock and mariachi groups. Additionally, Dan has done extensive theater work for the Old Globe Theatre, the La Jolla Playhouse, the San Diego Repertory Theatre, the North Coast Repertory Theatre, the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, the Hotel Del Coronado's annual Christmas pageant and other local theatre ensembles.

Dan currently teaches private lessons to students on banjo, mandolin, fiddle and guitar, plays with a number of bands, and performs at various public and private events.

In 2014, Dan released a new CD "Second Wind", an album described by Wayne Rice of KSON radio as"an outstanding album that will please anyone who loves real music."

Dan is originally from Pennsylvania but has spent most of his life in California. Outside of music, Dan is also an avid woodworker, backpacker, history buff, and baseball fan.
